Pirate Toucan

Class Mascot - Pirate Toucan
(The stuffie)
The class has been busy preparing for 3-Way Conferences that will take place on November 24th. Many students enjoyed bringing their stuffies to school to help raise money for the United Way. We will continue with the fundraising efforts starting with our Pie-in-the-Face competition. A few brave teachers have volunteered to be pied should the students raise enough funds! If you wish, please send $2.00 to school with your child between Nov. 20-22 to help raise funds. Thank you, once again, for your generosity!

Students learned about Remembrance Day and demonstrated respect during our Remembrance Day assembly. They showed leadership and caring with their Kindergarten Buddies. The class should feel proud of their accomplishments.

Conferences

Kindly remember to sign up for a 3-Way Conference through Conference Manager. Instructions were sent home last week on how to set up your accounts. Please verify that you have signed up under the correct teacher if you have more than one child attending our school. Conference Manager closes to parents on November 20 at 6pm. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for your help and cooperation.

Remembrance Day Assembly

Weekly Highlights:

Students~

  • learned about Remembrance Day by reading, listening and responding to non-fiction texts and worked with their Kindergarten Buddies to create a collaborative class wreath for the Remembrance Day assembly.
  • worked on mental math strategies, and 3-digit and 4-digit adding with regrouping in math. Please practice this concept at home. We will begin estimating differences this coming week.
  • continued learning about the writing process during our Writer's Workshop period, more specifically how to engage in peer conferencing. Next, the class will type/transfer their pet paragraphs onto a Google Document and learn more about spacing requirements (spaces after words, commas, how to capitalize, etc.) when typing on the computer. We are taking this process one step at a time, as the students learn how to navigate their new learning tools.
  • enjoyed their earned board games period with Mr. Koza's Gr. 5 students as our guests. The classes had an opportunity to play a variety of board/card games and have some Oreo cookies together. What a great way to head into the weekend! Well deserved!
  • learned how to select a 'good-fit' book using the I-PICK Trick. Please follow these guidelines when going to the library together and selecting books. A quick way to check if your child (c)omprehends and (k)nows most of the words is by having them read the first page of the book using the 'five-finger rule'. The children have been shown what this is. These guidelines can help you and your child select books that will improve their reading! (see chart below)

Coming Up:
  • Nov. 14 - Sp. Test
  • Nov. 15 - Pizza Slice orders due (online)
  • Nov. 17 - Bring $1 to "Wear Your PJs/Bring a Stuffy" for the United Way fundraiser
Friendly competition!

A round of fun during our
games period!

Please stay tuned for more exciting news and activities. The students and I are looking forward to having parents conference with us on November 24th!

Have a wonderful week ahead.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Aiginitis

Students will not attend regular classes on this day but will only come to school for their 15-minute conference with their parent(s). As in previous years, parents are asked to sign up for a conference using "Conference Manager." Conference Manager will open to parents on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at 7:00 AM. *More information will follow on Edbsy.
